San Mateo Park Modern Tudor

In this historic 1920’s home, we updated the public spaces to create a sophisticated Tudor style with a custom fireplace fender inspired by private clubs in England and seating to accommodate this family of five. The fireplace limestone was plastered and painted with a decorative “crown” to feel as though it had always been a part of the house. We worked with some of the existing antiques (mending and reupholstering as needed) as well as adding to the collection and integrating new pieces to freshen up the space as the children have entered adulthood. For a glamorous dining room, we plastered and painted the walls in a chinoiserie scene (inspired by a trip to Oplontis, Italy) and added a silver leaf finish to the ceiling. A custom Yew wood table and gilded Louis XVI-inspired chairs in velvet were created to withstand holiday celebrations for years to come. A custom light fixture and armoire anchor the space, while the windows are dreamily dressed in luxurious wool/cashmere.

Pool House Pub

What started as a solution to an ordinary pool house’s heating and acoustical dilemmas turned into a bespoke entertaining space for a family of five who love sports, travel, and enjoy a variety of experiences. The clients were inspired by a trip to Dublin (specifically by the floors of St Patrick Cathedral in Dublin) and requested the room felt like what they saw on their travels through Ireland. KMD worked with local artisans and craftspeople to transform this refuge to a vibrant, comfortable, and warm recreational space.
